The genius that predicted electromagnetic waves

Einstein Lor Economía as a genius. His work helped be possible cell phone technologies and Wifi to scanners and microwave ovens. Not forgetting radio and television. The genius that predicted electromagnetic waves is almost unknown. His name was James Clerk Maxwell.

His fascination with color resulted in the first color photo of history. He was born in Edinburgh in 1831. He discovered a new rule about the type of patterns at age 14. Then Maxwell dedicated himself to science. Thus resolved a great enigma on the planet Saturn.

Discovering waves

It was known that Saturn had rings and that they were very thin, but it was not known what they were made. He tried to understand it mathematically: if the rings were solid, could they exist or would destroy them the strength of gravity? Thus he could demonstrate that the last thing was true, that gravity would not allow such a thin body to orbit Saturn. He predicted that the rings were composed of small individual particles that floated around the planet. And that they appeared to be solid rings only when observing them from so far.

Magnetism and electricity were at that time great strangers. Michael Faraday was exploring with the dynamo and the engine. Maxwell looked at the space that surrounded the magnets. I saw it as a system of invisible curved tentacles that attracted or rejected other magnets or metals. That system was called 'field'.

He understood that magnetism and electricity had to be connected. When they were joined, the two fields combined and vibrated with energy. That vibration created waves, which he called electromagnetic. They spread in space like throwing a stone into the water.

His mathematical equations helped understand the world around us.

Maxwell also revealed that the light that humans can detect is only part of the range of electromagnetic waves. These include radio waves, microwave, X -rays, gamma rays. A huge leap in knowledge ... in just four short equations that many consider a work of mathematical art.

The legacy of the genius that predicted the electromagnetic waves continued to have repercussions. Other scientists worked on their theories, including Einstein. His contribution achieved the same as a stone thrown into a pond: it produced around waves that did not stop expanding.
