A very important agreement that has occurred between Apple and Google - historical enemies in terms of the development of mobile operating systems, mainly - in the field of AI. The announcement completely changes the landscape of artificial intelligence and its consequences are already beginning to be felt in the market.
And Apple and Google have announced an agreement "for several years" by which, from now on, Apple will integrate Google Gemini Artificial Intelligence models in their products. The details of the agreement have not been disclosed, although there is speculation that Apple will pay more than $1 billion a year to Google for the license of its AI models.
What is known is that the apple company has carried out an internal evaluation to determine which are the most advanced AI models and see how they can be integrated into its products. According to Apple, Google models perform best when it comes to understanding language, contextualizing, and offering complex responses to users.
That is why they have selected Google Gemini to integrate it into their products. As part of the agreement, Gemini will be the AI used to develop the next generation of the iPhone's voice assistant, Siri, which will be released later this year.
It is expected that thanks to the integration of Google AI, Siri will offer more relevant responses, be able to understand more complex texts and also understand and assess the context. In short, it provides a conversation experience that is more on par with the latest conversational AI models.
In addition, Gemini is also expected to serve to improve and add more functions to Apple Intelligence, Apple's AI, which seemed to have fallen behind in a highly competitive sector.
Of course, Apple ensures that Google will not have direct access to users' personal data, since all data processing will be carried out in Private Cloud Compute on the devices themselves, it will not reach the Google cloud.
Apple thus assumes that it must join its major competitor to offer competitive AI products and services to its users, after having fallen behind in the development of its own AI. On the other hand, with this collaboration, Google now deals a strong blow to the table to dominate the market, leaving OpenAI and ChatGPT very touched.
Following the announcement, shares of Alphabet, Google's parent company, have skyrocketed to over $4 trillion. Google's AI strategy seems to convince investors.
