You may not know, because you are used to using Google Maps or Apple Maps, both on your mobile and on your computer, but Windows also had so far an application of cartography and geolocation, Windows maps.
However, the company has decided to eliminate it forever, both Windows 10 and Windows 11, being one of the applications with less use in its operating system. In fact, Windows is full of useful apps and that they could complete the user experience, but the problem is that many of them are not known and go unnoticed by users.
In Microsoft maps, as in other similar apps, you could include a specific direction of destination and obtain the best route to walk, by car or by public transport. You could also obtain relevant information about companies and businesses, as well as users' opinions to the pure Google Maps style, although with less participation, of course.
But not only that, Microsoft maps also provided aerial images and street views in 360 degrees. However, most Windows users had no idea of their existence.
Therefore, Microsoft officially closes it, and it also does it stealthily, there is no official announcement, only a text on its official website indicates that the Windows maps application will be closed and definitively eliminated from the Microsoft Store application store in July 2025.
From that moment, it will be impossible to download it, and the users who have already done it and have it installed in their operating system will receive an update of the app that will lead them to use Bing Maps (yes, another Microsoft maps app), whose functions are practically similar.
Of course, whoever wants to uninstall the application will be able to do so, it will not be obliged to continue using bing maps. Anyway, if you are interested, Microsoft has indicated that it will continue to update it by adding new streets and more functionalities to Bing Maps, whose web version will remain available, so you could create a direct access from your browser to always have it by hand on your computer.
