Microsoft has decided Close Microsoft Lensan app to scan on the mobile and that allowed to convert any document -Curriculum, business card, invoice ... - in a digital file.
The app was even able to convert manuscripts into all types of formats: PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, images ... and had interesting additional functionalities, such as the possibility of illuminating a document, or converting a color document into a black and white copy.
The Microsoft Lens application was launched in 2015, with the name of Office Lens, and was installed by default on all Windows Phone mobile devices. Its operation was simple, but the main advantage over other mobile scanning apps is that using it was completely free, without having to deal with subscription plans. With this application it scanned and ready, the result could be saved in other Microsoft apps, on online devices or easily in the mobile phone memory.
Key dates at the gradual closure of Microsoft Lens
The Redmond headquarters (United States) has announced that it will withdraw the application of iOS and Android devices gradually as of September 15, 2025. The app will be definitely eliminated from Apple Store and Google Play Store Two months later, on November 15, 2025, date from which no more can be downloaded.
Those who have the installed application may continue to use it until December 15, 2025, but from that moment more scanners can be made. As Microsoft has indicated, you can access the documents that have been scanned previously, while the application is kept installed in the device.
Copilot's AI will replace Microsoft Lens
The closure of Microsoft Lens has surprised, being an app still widely used. In the last month, it has exceeded 320,000 downloads in mobile application stores, according to appfigures data.
Even so, Microsoft makes the strategic decision to close it, which will mean that Microsoft's AI, Copilot, performs the functions that the application did so far. Microsoft Lens users will be redirected to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, although functionalities are lost.
And, although with Copilot's AI it can be scanned, documents such as Word or PowerPoint cannot be saved, something that Microsoft Lens allowed. Nor does it allow you to save scanned cards in Onenote or be able to read the content of the documents aloud.
