Noah's ark in space

The Russian space agency, Roscosmos, experienced for 30 days in the Earth's orbit with the Bion-M 2. Biological satellite. They study how living beings survive spatial radiation. The mission was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome on August 20 and remained 30 days in polar orbit. According to scientists, all "crew" felt good, Tass reports. He considers him "Noah's ark in space." Because?

On board the 6.4 tons apparatus, 75 male mice, 1,500 fruit flies, cell crops, plants, cereal samples, legumes and industrial crops traveled. In addition, fungi, lichens and cellular material were thrown. Also seeds of plants grown from seeds that flew to the space in Bion-M 1 (2013) and Photon-M 4 (2014).

Simulating meteorites

A meteorite simulator was installed outside the device housing living cells. With their help, scientists plan to understand how life survives in the thickness of a meteorite by crossing the dense layers of the Earth's atmosphere.

The Bion-M mice crew was equipped with 25 boxes, each with three mice. The crew doubled on earth. 75 mice spent a month in a bioterio and another 75 on a support that simulated the biosatellite team. During the space mission, the state of living organisms was constantly monitored. According to the Biomedical Problems Institute (IBP), the entire crew felt good. Animals had implanted sensors that measured different parameters in each individual, such as temperature or heart rate.

The mice feed was automatic. At the same time, 15 mice were fed with dry food for a deeper study of water-ex-metabolism, and 60 with pasta food.

Radiation and ungravidity

It is expected to analyze the main data set within one year after the return of the mice. The analysis of video recordings with an approximate volume of 12 terabytes, should exceed two years. It is planned to accelerate work with the use of artificial intelligence. Noah's ark in space is a unique experiment in its kind.

Bion is a series of domestic spacecraft for biological research. In particular, scientists are interested in the effects of radiation and ungravation in living organisms. The first device of this type, called Cosmos-605, was launched in 1973. In 2013, the first Bion-M series satellite was put into orbit. Subsequently, mice, Mongolian Jerbos, Gecos, snails, plants and colonies of various microorganisms visited the space.
