NASA will allow it starting with the next missions to space (Crew-12 and Artemis II). It is a novelty regarding this type of missions. Astronauts will take cutting-edge smartphones into space. «We are providing our crews with the tools to capture special moments for their families. They will be able to share inspiring images and videos with the world,” says NASA.
They tackled “long-established” processes and validated modern spaceflight hardware “on an accelerated timeline.” NASA astronaut Clayton Anderson reacted to this announcement. He remembered that they did not let him take his iPod to the International Space Station.

Advances
«How much progress we have made! They wouldn't let me take my iPod from the shuttle to the Space Station because it 'wasn't certified' to fly there. It's ridiculous. I also couldn't bring my blue flight suit on board... it wasn't certified, so I had to use the Russian version," notes Anderson.
Artemis II will be the first manned mission to the Moon in more than 50 years. It will take off between March 7 and 11, 2026. NASA postponed the launch until March after suspending the countdown dress rehearsal with five minutes left. There were recurring fuel leaks during filling of the Space Launch System (SLS) tanks.
For its part, the Crew-12 crew will take off no earlier than Wednesday, February 11 at 12:00 p.m. (Spanish time). It will do so from Space Launch Complex 40 at the Cape Canaveral Space Station, in Florida (United States).

memorable images
The astronauts will carry smartphones and will undoubtedly return with memorable images to share. Who are the members of Crew-12? They are Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrei Fedyaev, NASA astronauts Jack Hathaway and Jessica Meir, and ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot.
The four astronauts will travel to the International Space Station aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. It will be boosted into orbit by a Falcon 9 rocket. Crew 12 will join Expeditions 74 and 75 aboard the Station during their stay, which is expected to last about nine months.
